Getting Ready at Mythe Barn
One of the great things about Mythe Barn is that everything is on-site. Hayley and Dan both got ready at the venue, so I could easily move between them and capture the unique atmosphere of their preparations. It’s a part of the day I love, and you can see more of my favourite Getting Ready Photos on the blog.
The day started with the boys, who were relaxing and cracking open a few beers in The Den. Their morning was filled with laughter as they tried, and hilariously failed, to attach their buttonholes. Fortunately, after years of photographing weddings, I’ve become quite the expert and was able to step in and save the day!
Meanwhile, in the beautiful bridal prep area, Hayley and her bridesmaids were getting ready. The mood was full of excitement and anticipation as the final touches were made.
The Ceremony in the Oak Barn
The ceremony space at Mythe Barn is genuinely one of my favourite places to shoot. The solid oak frame gives it a rustic, authentic feel, while the huge floor-to-ceiling windows flood the room with natural light. It's the perfect blend of modern elegance and countryside charm, creating a stunning backdrop for exchanging vows.
Hayley and Dan’s ceremony was just perfect. It was filled with so much laughter and genuine joy, reflecting their personalities completely. Seeing them share their vows in such a beautiful setting was a real highlight of the day. A Sun-Kissed Drinks Reception
The weather was absolutely gorgeous, so everyone headed outside into the courtyard for the drinks reception. Guests mingled in the sunshine, played garden games, and enjoyed a relaxed cocktail hour. It was the ideal setting for everyone to get to know each other before the wedding breakfast.
As someone who’s genuinely passionate about capturing the day as it truly unfolds, I always gravitate towards those little unposed moments—grins exchanged over glasses of Pimms, kids darting about on the lawn, and friends sharing in-jokes under the sun. At the same time, I love to combine these documentary-style shots with a handful of gentle, guided portraits. Nothing stiff, nothing forced—just a few simple prompts that honestly bring out the best in a couple. It means your wedding album is filled with images that feel as authentic and effortless as your day truly was.
During this time, we slipped away for some beautiful couple shots around the stunning grounds. Hayley and Dan were so natural and fun in front of the camera, making it easy to capture their newlywed glow. The relaxed atmosphere let me take many natural photographs, capturing the day as it unfolded. This approach to photography is at the heart of natural and light-filled wedding photography, and Mythe Barn delivers the perfect setting for just that.
Speeches and The Wedding Breakfast
The Grain Store was set for dinner, and it looked incredible. Before everyone tucked into the delicious food, it was time for the speeches. With two best men and a very proud dad, the speeches were an amazing mix of heartfelt emotion and laugh-out-loud moments. The room was buzzing with energy, which put everyone in the perfect mood for the party ahead.
While guests enjoy their meal, I usually take a moment to back up the photos from the day and recharge my own batteries (and my camera's!). I then return, ready to capture the evening's celebrations.
The Evening Party
As evening fell, the party really got started. The dancefloor was packed, and everyone was ready to celebrate with the happy couple. The energy was electric, and I was in my element capturing all the fun.
In a first for me, an over-enthusiastic groomsman managed to break my toe while throwing some serious shapes on the dancefloor! It certainly made for an interesting drive home, but it’s a story that will always make me smile when I think back on Hayley and Dan’s incredible wedding. It’s a testament to just how much fun everyone was having!
